A dress that photographs beautifully can still be the wrong dress at 4pm on a lawn. The gap is almost always one of these four, and none of them survives being described in adjectives — so we measure them and print the numbers.

The most requested dress for a ceremony on sand, and the one we describe most carefully. The bodice is lined; the skirt is not, and against a low sun it reads semi-sheer. That is a fact about the fabric, not a fault in it.

Opaque without a lining, because the weave is dense even though the cloth is thin. It also records water marks, creases and snags, and it keeps them. We would rather you knew that before dinner than after.

The fourth thing

How a hem behaves in moving air is the difference between a dress you forget you are wearing on an exposed lawn and one you hold down for two hours. It is also the one property that a product photograph, by definition, cannot record.

So we test it instead: every piece is run past a fan at a fixed speed and graded light, moderate or heavy on how far the hem lifts. It is a description of cloth, not a forecast — we do not claim any hem stays down.

  • Answer “mostly outdoors” and nothing sheer and unlined is returned.
  • Answer “33°C and above” and only light, machine-washable cloth is returned.
