What this fabric does

  • Recovers from folding quickly, but it does hold a soft crease at the lap for a short time after sitting.
  • Dry flat. A fine knit stretches long on a hanger while wet.

Why it is made this way

This is the dress that lives in the side pocket of a carry-on. Fine-gauge knit at 190 g/m² compresses to about the size of a rolled towel and comes out of the bag without a press.

It creases less than a woven does. It is not creaseless — nothing is — but a knit recovers where a linen does not.
