What this fabric does

  • Linen creases. This dress will show fold lines across the lap after an hour of sitting, and that does not press out until you iron it.
  • The skirt is unlined. In direct low sun the leg line is visible through it.
  • Washed linen relaxes about half a size after the first wash.

Why it is made this way

This is the piece most people picture when they think of a warm-weather wedding on sand. It is also the piece most likely to surprise you in photographs, because linen at this weight passes light.

We line the bodice and leave the skirt open, which keeps the dress breathable at 30°C and keeps the top half readable in direct sun. The skirt reads semi-sheer against a low sun. If your ceremony is late afternoon with the sun behind you, plan for that.

    The listing says the skirt is semi-sheer and it is exactly that — at the 5pm ceremony with the sun low behind us you could see my legs through it in photos. I had read the note and worn a slip, so it was fine. Would have been a bad surprise otherwise. It creased across the lap within about half an hour of sitting, also as described.
